It’s hard to believe it has been seven weeks since I rejoined Waterline as Head of New Business. It’s been an exciting return filled with reconnecting with our people and our clients, while also travelling, and strengthening Waterline’s presence across the geographies. I’ve had the opportunity to continue developing our business strategies while also connecting and understanding our clients’ challenges and goals out on site, to see how we can better engage to support their operations. Spending time with our clients at their sites is always rewarding, listening to them share how their sites are operating, what projects they’ve delivered, what is being planned for the future and seeing with our own eyes their accomplishments. There’s also something to be said about the pride that our clients have and the passion that we see radiating from them as they take us through their site. Knowing that our team has contributed to our clients’ success is extremely rewarding.
Reflecting on my ‘road tripping’ over these past seven weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to visit @Stanwell Tarong Power Station with @Tim Strong and clients in the Mount Isa region, such as MMG Limited Dugald River and Evolution Mining Ernest Henry with @Tony Roberston. Then spent some time with @Tom Barber in Emerald, Middlemount and Blackwater—Coronado Global Resources Inc., Kestrel Coal Resources, Glencore Australia, Ensham Resources, BHP/BMA Seeing Clients first hand really helps us be empathetic to the challenges while also discussing their pain points, unlocking project value and how our talented multi-discipline engineering consulting team can engineer solutions for their advisory, capital and operational engineering projects.
Connecting with our clients and industry
October has also been a month of forward planning. I’ve mapped out our site visits for the next 12 months to keep our engagement consistent and proactive, ensuring we’re there to support our clients’ and the industries changing needs. I’m especially looking forward to the Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Annual Forum and Lunch on Friday 22 November, which Waterline is sponsoring. Events like these are critical to ensure that there is a platform for the industry to come together and discuss the trends, challenges, and advancements shaping our sector. Another opportunity for us to connect with our clients, and help unlock the resource that we currently depend on for daily life
Engaging with the Moranbah community
Being a part of the Annual Moranbah Fittest in the Coal Fields CrossFit competition, this month was another highlight. Waterline not only sponsored the event but also gave me the chance to connect with the local community in a unique setting. I forgot how hot it gets. Seeing the commitment and camaraderie within the community was a great reminder of the strength and resilience of those who live and work in mining regions. Supporting these local events is just one of the ways Waterline aims to engage meaningfully with our clients and the communities they call home.
Reflecting on safety month at Waterline
As safety month wraps up, there’s been no better time to reinforce our commitment to safety in everything we do. During each site visit, I’ve been impressed by the rigorous safety protocols our clients have in place. Further to this, Waterline’s core values commit and inspires us to keep pushing for innovations that not only enhance operations but also keep personnel safe. Our multi-discipline bakes safety intof our work, reducing the stress of our clients’ and keeping their operations running smoothly and efficiently.
As we move towards the end of the year, I’m excited for the opportunity to represent Waterline at the QRC annual luncheon and look forward to continuing our mission of delivering high-quality engineering work for our clients. Let’s continue driving meaningful growth, collaboration and – most importantly – our commitment to safety.
