This October, as we celebrate National Safe Work Month, we’re shining a light on the crucial role of Civil & Structural Engineering at Waterline—one of the many disciplines at Waterline. For us, helping our clients maintain productive and safe operations is more than a requirement—it’s the foundation of every design.

We bring an owner’s mindset to all our clients’ engagements, which means we treat each project as if we were investing our own funds and resources into the project. Therefore, our engineers, designers and drafters combine their technical mastery with innovation, ensuring structures stand the test of time.

GROWING OUR CIVIL CAPABILITIES

As the Team Lead of the Civil & Structural team, I am thrilled to welcome Michael Steer, Principal Civil Engineer and RPEQ to our Civil & Structural team. Michael’s passion for advancing Civil Engineering, while upholding the highest safety standards, aligns perfectly with Waterline’s core values of Driven, Authentic, Empathetic and Supportive. His extensive expertise will undoubtedly elevate our team’s capabilities as he seeks to ensure Waterline continues to deliver mutual success—high quality work for our clients that also makes our team proud of our project deliverables.

Waterline is dedicated to our clients and our people, with our proactive and transparent approach to reducing clients’ stress and maintaining focus on positive project outcomes. Michael will be ensuring our Civil & Structural Engineering team provides the peace of mind our clients need for the safety and integrity of existing equipment, or the design, modelling, planning, and commissioning of new infrastructure.

MAINTAINING PRODUCTIVE & SAFE OPERATIONS

My team thrives on complexity and helping our clients engineer solutions for their advisory, capital and site engineering projects. We transform challenging project requirements into practical, efficient designs that prioritise safety without sacrificing functionality. Here are two recent projects that highlight my team’s expertise:

Non-Process Infrastructure – BMA | Moranbah Airport

Waterline’s Civil & Structural team engineered a slab-on-ground for our client, and designed the foundation to support large water tanks, integrating fencing, earthing, and earthworks. The design navigated intricate site conditions, ensuring long-term stability and durability.

BMA’s Broadmeadow Mine (57 Cut Through Project)

For this complex project, Waterline delivered both concept and detailed designs for the Civil and Structural engineering, which was essential to the mine’s underground expansion. Our engineers optimised layouts to ensure safe traffic management on the earth pad, integrated security measures, and coordinated all mechanical and electrical service trenches—resulting in a streamlined, cost-effective solution that prioritises worker safety.

These projects showcase my team’s ability to solve complex challenges, while delivering designs that exceed client expectations and allow seamless flow to construction.

At Waterline, safety remains at the core of everything we do. From load-bearing calculations to material selection, our engineers carefully analyse every detail to ensure that structures are resilient, protecting both people and our clients’ assets.
