TECHNICAL MINDS.
PRACTICAL OUTCOMES.

Behind every successful engineering project is technical knowledge, practical problem-solving and attention to detail.

At Waterline, our technical teams turn ideas, requirements and client challenges into practical outcomes. Their work across calculations, reports, drawings, design documentation and site updates helps projects move forward with accuracy, clarity and purpose.

As part of Built by Women @ Waterline, we are recognising the women contributing across our technical disciplines and supporting high-quality outcomes for our clients.

Bringing Technical Detail to Life

Technical work is often where project ideas become something tangible.

For one member of Waterline’s technical team, the role combines problem-solving, analysis and continuous learning through technical tools, reports and calculations. “Engineering to me means solving a problem using maths and physics,” they say.

That ability to apply technical thinking to real-world challenges is at the heart of engineering: understanding options, testing assumptions and developing practical, reliable solutions.

Solving Problems with Purpose

When asked what they enjoy most, the team returned to a common theme: solving problems and working with others to get the best result.

For one team member, the most rewarding problems are not always the ones with a single clear answer: “I enjoy solving problems that don’t have one clear solution,” they say. “There might be a few options, each with their own pros and cons.”

Good technical outcomes often require weighing priorities, considering constraints and understanding the impact of each decision. It is about asking the right questions and finding the best path forward for the project and the client.

In drawing and design support, problem-solving can include digitising old drawings, so they become relevant and useful again. Quiet behind-the-scenes work like this can significantly improve the quality and usability of project information.

The Value of Accurate Information

In engineering, accuracy matters. Drawings, reports, calculations and design documentation underpin decisions made by project teams, clients and site personnel. Clear, reliable information builds confidence; outdated or unclear information creates delay, confusion and risk. That is why technical roles are so important to project delivery.

Technical roles help ensure the right information is available, the right details are captured and final outputs support project needs. This work contributes directly to quality, compliance and delivery.

It is also collaborative. Technical team members work with engineers, project managers and other disciplines to keep information aligned, useful and fit for purpose.

Built Through Collaboration

SStrong engineering outcomes are built through collaboration and an owner’s mindset. Technical teams operate within a broader delivery environment where engineers, designers, draftspersons, project managers and support teams all contribute to the final result, taking collective ownership of the outcome rather than just their individual deliverables.

For Waterline’s technical team, collaboration is one of the most valued parts of the work: interacting with others, working through challenges and seeing the outcome take shape.

An owner’s mindset strengthens this collaboration by encouraging people to think beyond their discipline, consider the broader project objectives and support decisions that create the best outcome for the client. Good communication helps people feel valued, supported and able to contribute their best work. It encourages knowledge-sharing and creates an environment where effort is recognised. That matters in engineering, where the best outcomes are achieved when people work together with a common purpose.

Recognising The Technical Contribution

At Waterline, we are proud to recognise the women contributing to this work across our technical disciplines. Their expertise, curiosity and attention to detail shape the quality of what we deliver. Their problem-solving, support and collaboration help clients move forward with confidence.

Engineering is built through people who care about getting the details right. And at Waterline, it is built by women across every part of the project lifecycle.
