Engineering Compliance into Safer, Smarter Mining Operations

QNP.1

In mining, compliance is non-negotiable. It also provides an opportunity for clients to improve processes. Done right, compliance keeps personnel safe, while ensuring reliable production and prevents costly downtime.

At Waterline, we support miners with compliance capabilities ranging from RS23 assessments and guarding audits through to structural integrity reviews and LOM studies.

A recent example is our work with QLD Nitrates (QNP), a leading supplier of ammonium nitrate to Queensland’s resources sector. When new truck containers introduced unexpected risks to their loadout operations, QNP turned to Waterline.

The Challenge

  • New transtainers had higher loading points and hatches closer to the edges
  • Existing handrails and ramps created fall-from-height risks
  • Wire rope and actuator systems lacked sufficient travel
  • All modifications needed to happen with minimal downtime

Our Solution

To address the client’s problem, Waterline’s engineers modified handrails, guide wheels, rope connections, and ramps. We also introduced adjustable guards and extended safety rails to eliminate fall-through gaps.

The Outcome

  • Safer operations for loadout personnel
  • Continued compliance with safety standards
  • Minimal disruption to production
  • A trusted partnership with QNP, who continue to engage Waterline on future capital projects

Compliance is never static. As mining operations evolve, so must their infrastructure. At Waterline, we see compliance as the foundation for safer, more efficient operations, and a pathway to long-term resilience.
