POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of the Engineering Account Manager is to work within the Strategic Growth team and in collaboration with the wider business to achieve a sustainable pipeline of new work for Waterline and ensure our internal and external clients are supported. The role plays a key role in the delivery of Waterline’s sales strategy and sales targets.
The Engineering Account Manager has a technical background within the resources industry, a general knowledge of Waterline’s range of services and capabilities, a working knowledge of our client operations and personnel, and actively cultivates and nurtures relationships within our target audience and key accounts.
The role is dynamic and diverse and involves account management as well as technical / project aspects. Duties include account management, scoping and quoting new projects, attending industry events, coordinating tenders for new projects, and promoting Waterline’s services within the industry. The technical aspects are based on the skillset of the individual, but may include technical involvement in projects, facilitation of scoping workshops, and providing technical / operational experience to help contextualise the industry for less experienced Waterline team members.
The Engineering Account Manager role is essential to Waterline’s purpose of partnering with Australian industry to provide safe and sustainable resources to the world. You will use your technical understanding and practical experience to make our Industry Partners more efficient, safe, and productive.
ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
- Carry out Account Management for our key clients that fosters long-term relationships in order to ensure Waterline is the preferred engineering services provider
- Plan and execute routine Account Management site visits (nominally six-monthly of our key regions, but may vary depending on business requirements)
- Monthly Account Management reporting, and maintaining an account management plan for these clients
- Work within the Strategic Growth team to provide sufficient forward workload (new work / projects) to support Waterline’s engineering teams
- Identify new work by working closely with our clients to understand their needs and future project requirements
- Collaborate with clients and Waterline’s technical teams to coordinate the scoping and quoting process for upcoming work, and progress this through to new projects for the team
- Internal coordination of project tenders
- Regular engagement with clients for sourcing new opportunities, following up on quotes, and ensuring they feel supported by Waterline
- Facilitate internal sales meetings with Team Leads and other Waterline team members
- Work closely with the Marcomms team to develop sales materials to support our capabilities
- Waterline campaigns – work with Marcomms and other teams to scope and deliver campaigns to achieve specific outcomes
- Maintain Waterline’s CRM to keep an accurate record of our clients, opportunities and sales efforts
- Attend industry events, representing Waterline to build relationships and awareness across the industry
- Carry out site visits for client meetings, scoping new projects, and other activities
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and evolution of all things ‘sales’ at Waterline
TECHNICAL
- Provide technical input (based on experience and skillset) to the scoping and quoting process
- Some involvement in projects based on experience, qualifications and skillset
- Provide ‘project sponsor’ support to new projects to successfully transition them from sales to project execution
- Facilitate workshops / sessions with clients and / or waterline technical team members, such as project scoping workshops
- As a technical and sales champion, you will ensure that you rapidly develop an understanding and keep up to date with waterline’s services and capabilities
Qualifications
- Relevant trade or Bachelor of Engineering
Experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience within the Resources Industry (or consultancy / OEM / supplier) in a technical role
- Have worked onsite, or closely with site operational / project personnel
- Can demonstrate transferrable knowledge in technical conversations that are both of a familiar discipline, as well as unfamiliar discipline
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders
- Proactive self-starter open to new ideas and willing to challenge norms, continuously improve, as well establish new systems and processes
- Proven strong analytical skills and experience
- Experience in estimating is desirable
- Strong project management, planning and time management skills
- Problem-solving aptitude with proven experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives
