The company was founded in 2011 by electrical engineer and entrepreneur, Randall Makin, from his office positioned on the waterline in Bowen, where the then boutique company existed to deliver electrical engineering to the ports industry.
Being ‘boots on the ground’ in the mining industry at the time, the company saw a niche in the market for site-experienced engineers to work with large asset owners to improve the safety, productivity and capacity of their operations. With this business model in mind, Waterline evolved into something much more powerful: a purpose-built, multidisciplined engineering business specialising in brownfield projects within the Queensland Mining industry. Waterline has also become an incubator for nurturing engineering careers!
In 2013, Randall took this business model and co-founded RedEye Apps, one of Australia’s fastest growing start-ups and the first software business to make engineering data truly mobile. Together, the two brands frequently collaborate to combine engineering, drafting and software to help clients digitise paper-based processes and manage engineering information. This collaboration offers a true point of difference on the engineering stage.
Today, Waterline’s multi-disciplined team is comprised of 45 engineers who have extensive industry and field experience.
Our multi-discipline skills include:
- Electrical, Mechanical and Structural Engineering
- Operational Technology
- Engineering Design
- Asset Reliability Studies
